A Boone man was arrested Thursday afternoon in rural Adel after trying to jettison an ounce of cannabis from his vehicle.

Trystin Thaddeus Bettazza, 26, of 1079 U Ave., Boone, was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance and person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons and issued citations for no valid driver’s license, no insurance and operating a non-registered vehicle.

The incident began about 4:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of K Avenue and 290th Street in rural Adel, where a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff initiated a traffic stop on a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Battazza.

Before Bettazza stopped his vehicle, the deputy “observed a sandwich bag of a green substance thrown out the window and land on the roadway,” according to court records.

The deputy made contact with Bettazza and asked Bettazza whether he had any weapons. “He stated he did and that it was a pistol on his right hip within his waist band,” according to court records.

The deputy secured the firearm.

A search of Bettazza’s person disclosed a THC cartridge “in his front pocket,” according to court records.

Bettazza allegedly told the deputy “that he had just purchased the marijuana in Redfield, and the original amount was approximately one ounce,” according to court records.

The deputy “was able to collect a small amount of the marijuana on K Avenue,” according to court records.

Bettazza was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $3,294.88 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a hearing Sept. 15 in Dallas County District Court.
